AM. FLYER REPAIR CLINICS

CLINIC # 29: A.C. GILBERT QUARTERING TOOLS

The A. C. Gilbert Co. produced simple quartering tools for use by their repair shops when there was a need to replace drive wheels on steam engines. On the AF steamers, as on the real thing, drivers on one side of the engine are mounted 87-degrees forward of those on the opposite side of the engine.

Shown below are the original Gilbert Instruction Sheets for the use of the 6-wheel tool. The other tools are used in the same way.

Used to accurately press and quarter drive-wheels on American Flyer steam engines. These tools are designed to install and quarter an entire set of drivers at once, as was normally done at the factory.. They are not intended to be used to install or re-quarter, a single driver, or a partial set, with the exception of the "Single-Axle Quartering Tool".
Requires only a good vise.

Except for the Atlantic, these are exact reproductions of the original AC Gilbert repair shop quartering tools.
The Atlantic tool is a custom-designed tool.
Hudson, K5, Pacific, 6-wheel tool; SOLD OUT
Northern (4-8-4), 8-wheel tool; $75
0-8-0, 8-wheel tool; $75
Atlantic, 4-wheel tool: SOLD OUT
(NOTE: The 8-wheel tool cannot be used with 6-wheel engines; there is a spacing difference.)

Also available: a Single-axle Quartering Tool for 0-8-0 engines only.
